Chicago Botanical Gardens

Children's Growing Garden: Structural design of a wood-framed building
with 18-foot tall walls sized to meet deflection requirements of the brick façade with a steel-framed clerestory connected into the wood framing.
The Pavilion is steel-framed with cedar trim and the Pergola is cedar-framed with concealed connections.
Since the pergola is partially connected to the pavilion and also into the building, deflection compatibility under
lateral loading was a concern addressed in the design.
